Other information: After completing his medical education in Katmandu, Nepal, Dr Faisal Saeed began working in his home country, the Maldives, where he soon realised that there was much lacking in the health system in terms of regulation of the medical profession and a legislation to ensure that good quality care was provided to the public. Driven by the need to regulate and standardise care, he joined the Ministry of Health and Family, where he was tasked with regulatory work.
Because of the lack of any person with expertise in the medical regulation and law, he applied and was awarded the Hodgson Law Scholarship from the University of Liverpool in 2010 for the Master of Laws in Law Medicine and Healthcare programme. As the only person qualified in medical law in the country, he is an advocate of patient rights, and is currently working as the Medico-legal and Quality Assurance Executive at ADK Hospital in Male’ Maldives, the largest private healthcare provider, where he is setting up regulatory mechanism and standardising care to improve the quality of care provided.
