A guide to help you with your LLM application.

The LLM application process

Applicants must have completed or be in the final year of completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent degree at a minimum 2.1 (UK Upper Second) or equivalent standard and have an excellent standard of English.

Students interested in applying for the Hodgson Law Scholarship are advised to make preparation for the application well in advance of the deadline for applications to their chosen course of study. Documents required (for a scholarship) include:

  • Academic transcripts and certificates (including English language qualifications).
  • A certified copy of the applicant’s birth certificate.
  • The relevant institutionally endorsed bachelor’s degree certificate (when it becomes available).
  • Two references attesting to the candidate’s academic ability to undertake a postgraduate degree in law and one reference attesting to the candidate’s good character (no reference may be submitted by a member of the candidate’s family).
  • Two passport sized photographs of the candidate certified to be a true likeness of the candidate by a suitably responsible professional person known to the candidate (e.g. lawyer, teacher, doctor).
  • An essay of application (see Essay Guidance below).

Essay Guidance

Applicants should give careful consideration to the preparation of an essay – not to exceed 2,000 words – in which they will set out in their own words detailed reasons for wishing to study for a taught postgraduate law degree at the University of Liverpool and their aspirations for their careers for the future including their:

Interest in law and the legal community.

Previous work experience.

Why they wish to study in Liverpool.

Interest in making connections with the legal community in Liverpool and its region.

Interest in public service.

Potential for leadership.

Potential continuing relationship with the Liverpool City Region after completion of their studies.

All International applicants must satisfy the UKBA requirements for the granting of a student visa.
